International Student Exchange

Students can complete a portion of their study requirements at foreign institutions through Erasmus+ and other international programs which the University of Banja Luka is a part of. The requirements completed at partner institutions are recognised at the home university provided certain conditions are met. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering is included in the Erasmus+ program.

Who can participate?

Students of the first, second and third cycle can participate in exchange programs. First-cycle students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering can participate in exchange programs after they acquired 60 ECTS. Second and third-cycle students can participate in exchange programs without additional requirements.

Duration of exchange

Duration of study exchange is minimum 3, and maximum 12 months.

Duration of practical training exchange is minimum one, and maximum 12 months.

Duration of research exchange at second and third-cycle is minimum 3, and maximum 12 months.

Student can participate in exchanges multiple times through their studies, provided that the combined duration of the exchange periods at the same study cycle cannot be longer than 12 months.

Individual exchanges for one-year master students cannot be longer than 6 months.

Application procedure

Outgoing students wishing to participate in exchange through Erasmus+ program must apply to the call through web application .

Incoming  students  are entered  into  the  integrated  information  system  by student affairs officers at the Faculty.

Before the exchange

Ongoing students are required to sign the Learning Agreement where all the requirements that the student will complete at the partner institution during the exchange will be specified. The Learning Agreement specifies the courses at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering which are to be replaced by the courses at the partner institution. The Learning Agreement is signed by the student, academic coordinator for student and staff mobility and a representative of the receiving institution.

During the exchange

The student is required to submit the Report on the realization of the activities during student mobility to the Academic coordinator for student and staff mobility. If necessary, the student submits the Report multiple times.

After the exchange

  1. The student submits the Report on finished student mobility to the Academic coordinator for student and staff mobility.
  2. Receiving institution issues a Transcript of Records or Transcript of Work.
  3. Commission for the recognition of the period of exchange carried out abroad attests the recognition of passed exams, i.e. awarded ECTS, grades and other results of the mobility.
  4. The student submits to the Commission documents related the mobility:
    • a written request,
    • the Learning Agreement, as well as possible amendments,
    • the Transcript of Records or Transcript of Work from the receiving institution,
    • a document on the grading system at the receiving institution (if this information is not included in the Transcript of Records).
  5. The student is issued the Decision on the Recognition of the Exchange Period.
  6. Student affairs office enters the grades from the Decision into the student's permanent record.

Recognition of the exchange period

Outgoing and incoming students participating in study exchange are required to complete the activities corresponding to minimum 3 ECTS per month of exchange.

The purpose of mobility is to allow a student to carry out academic activities at the receiving institution, and to acknowledge the exchange  period as if it was spent at the home institution. The main criteria for recognition of ECTS credits and grades awarded during the exchange period are the learning outcomes in according to the Learning Agreement and Transcript of Records. The principal factor for issuing the Decision is the knowledge in a certain field that  the  student  gains  during  mobility, which  does  not  have  to  be  identical, but  merely comparable to the knowledge the student would have otherwise gained by attending a given course at the University.

A student who has not passed all the exams at the Receiving Institution which were defined in the Learning Agreement, i.e. has not earned the required 30 ECTS credits per semester, but has attended the relevant classes, is entitled to take the equivalent exams at the University from the semesters spent in mobility, without taking any mandatory midterms. At the student’s request they will be allowed to take midterms post festum in order to earn a higher grade.
